Help When Parenting Hurts
Sustain your strength, hope and dignity through the tough times
Embodied Wisdom for Burnt Out Parents (and the Professionals who support them)
If you are a long-term parent/carer for a child whose body and brain is always on fire, you will know there is a high risk of becoming depleted, distressed and disconnected yourself. Perhaps you are feeling all those things, right now.
If so, you are in the right place.
No matter how much you understand the need to parent your child differently, it is simply not possible to be in the midst of so much agitation and chaos, for so long, and not be moved by it.
But that doesn’t mean you have to suffer alongside it too. I want to assure you that it is possible to dance a little lighter in the face of pressure, and navigate your challenges with greater dignity and ease. At least, for a lot more of the time.
I invite you to join me in discovering how you can hold on to your senses, compassion and inspiration, even when everyone else is losing theirs.
Unlocking Blocked Care
Even the strongest, smartest and most loving parent can end up losing heart and hope when parenting gets messy. It’s not surprising, and neither you nor your child are to blame.
Highly reactive, resistant and rejecting behaviours take its toll on everyone. It’s natural for us to mirror our child’s experience and for our automatic self-protective defences to get triggered, especially when we feel misunderstood, under supported and under resourced.
The problem is, the usual self-care advice, though well-intentioned, under-estimates the impact that prolonged stress can have on our body, beliefs and behaviours.
That’s why I share practices that act as an antidote to disempowerment and disconnection, so you can transform how you feel about yourself and your parenting.
Who Am I?
Welcome. I am Kirstie Seaborne.
I am a certified teacher, embodied leadership coach, sensory-somatic regulation and resilience practitioner and compassion fatigue educator, trained in attachment, trauma and brain-based parenting approaches.
But it’s my 25 years experience as a foster, adoptive and birth Mum that my clients value most. I know first hand how contagious trauma is, how destructive distressed nervous systems can be (including my own), and how powerless and shame-soaked parents can feel.
I am lucky to have had many wise teachers at my back, gently challenging me to heal, learn and grow. That’s why I shares principles, tools and practices with those of you who care, because I know it makes all the difference in the world.
“Our relationships and family life have significantly improved…the sessions have also made a huge difference to how I feel about myself as a parent”
— Richard Wade, Dad of 4.

Parenting With The Body In Mind
Have you noticed that no matter how good your intentions are and how many parenting books you’ve read, you still end up saying and doing everything you said you wouldn’t?
Instead of the calm, peaceful parent you thought you’d be, you discover you rage, or shut down when under pressure? That’s because we don’t just parent with our heads, but with our hearts, hopes and histories, too.
Our body is the greatest source of our resilience, but it also holds embedded habits, patterns and conditioned beliefs that trip us up and trigger us in the moment.
That’s why all of you - your body, mind and spirit - is welcome in our work together, so you can trust you can take compassionate and empowered action aligned with your vision and values, when it matters most.
“This stuff is gold dust. It’s the what, the why, but most importantly the how. A triple whammy of in-the-trenches parenting strategies, with body-based learning to put it into practice, and someone who really gets it, because they’ve been there. It’s what I’ve been looking for all along”
— Jane T, Step-Mum and Teen Counsellor
